Horizontal cracks, sticking door is resolved in Dayton, OH
Challenge
A homeowner in Dayton was experiencing problems with cracks in the walls, the front door was sticking and there was a space between the baseboard and the floor. The problems had worsened in the past six months so the homeowner called The Basement Doctor for a solution to this problem.
The homeowner met with Steve, a Certified Inspector, who recommended that a Helical Pier System and Polylevel Injection is used to resolve the problems with the walls cracking, a door sticking and a sinking floor.
Solution
The Helical Pier System is used to support the foundation of the home, and an attempt is made to lift the house back to the level position. A Helical Pier is a steel pier that is mechanically screwed into the ground until it reaches competent soil. A bracket is attached to the foundation footer and attached to the Helical Pier. The weight of the home is then transferred through the pier from the incompetent soil to the competent soil. This immediately stabilizes the foundation, the soil that was removed to install the pier is put back into place. At first, you will notice that the dirt is mounded up where the piers were installed, but over time the dirt will settle back into place, and you won't see where the work was done.
Polylevel injection is used to lift the floor back into place so there would no longer be a space between the baseboard and the floor. Polylevel Injection is performed by drilling small holes into the slab; the foam is injected and expands to raise the slab to the level position. The small holes are filled in, and the floor will be ready to walk on in no time.
