Crawl Space Repair Photo Album: Helical Piers Used to Stabilize a Foundation in Hillsboro, OH
A Hillsboro, Ohio homeowner was experiencing cracks in the foundation and called The Basement Doctor of Cincinnati to find a solution to this problem. The homeowner met with Steve, a Certified Inspector, who recommended that a Helical Pier System is installed to stabilize the foundation.
The Helical Pier System is used to immediately stabilize the foundation, and in some cases, can lift the foundation to a level position. A Helical Pier is a steel pier that is mechanically screwed into the soil until it reaches bedrock or competent soil. A steel Bracket is attached to the pier and to the home's foundation footer. The weight of the home is now transferred through the pier to the more stable soil. This immediately stabilizes the foundation and permanently protects it from further movement. Helical Piers can be installed year round.
Problematic Foundation
This is where we installed our piers. The stair-like cracking you see in the block foundation was a cause for concern.
Helical Pier System Installation
the Helical Piers are mechanically screwed into the ground until it reaches bedrock or competent soil. Their screw-like shape helps them reach deep depths without displacing the soil they are entering.
Helical Pier Brackets
A Special Bracket is attached to the Helical Pier and also to the home's foundation footer to permanently stabilize the home and possibly lift the foundation to a level position. The red attachment on top of the brackets is what allows us to hydraulically lift the footers.
Helical Pier Installation
Helical Piers are installed below grade, so once installed you will not see them.
