Challenge

George C. had a plumbing leak in his home last year that caused water damage to the floors.  His insurance company told him that he needed to have a vapor barrier installed.   There was pea gravel on the floor of the crawlspace and there was no sump pump installed.  He called The Basement Doctor of Cincinnati for a solution to this problem.   

Solution

An appointment was scheduled with our Certified Inspector, Walt, to find a solution to this problem.  Upon inspection, he found that some of the insulation had fallen from between the joists and needed to be replaced.  There was also a lot of moisture and humidity in the crawlspace. 

The products needed for this project were SilverGlo insulation, a polystyrene foam infused with graphite to keep the crawlspace area warm.  CleanSpace encapsulation system, a bright polyethylene liner that is vapor-proof and mold resistant.  CleanSpace Vent Covers will help provide an airtight seal in the crawlspace.  A SmartSump, sump pump system that is designed for crawlspaces.  A great feature of this sump pump is the lid!  The lid is designed so that if there would ever be another plumbing leak, water would collect in a pocket that would sound an alarm alerting the problem to the homeowner.   Now, with these products installed, the homeowner will be alerted if there was ever another plumbing leak, the humidity will be at a safe level and he will be in compliance with his insurance company.
