Commercial Foundations Photo Album: Wooden Deck Support Posts Installed in Waynoka, Ohio

This home on Lake Waynoka had an outdoor deck that needed some structural strengthening. The floors above the deck in the sun room started to become uneven due to the crawl spaces existing wooden support posts sinking into problematic soil. We installed two rows of our SmartJack posts right next to the two main girders. Each row consisted of 7 SmartJack posts, which required us to dig 14 different holes to installed our 14 SmartJacks. We fill the holes with our limestone, which is easily compacted to make for a strong base for the posts, which won't settle. After jacking up each different SmartJack in order to level out the deck above, the homeowner was very pleased with the outcome. Be sure to scroll through the photos for more!

Uneven Floors

Not only were the floors uneven, but there were also sticky doors. If you look closely at the framing of the sun room, you can see the windows and doors are uneven as well.

Laser Level

We use a laser, which is level with the earth in order to see what parts of the structure are sagging the most. This crawl space had some parts sagging up to half an inch in some spots.

Existing Posts

These wooden posts were not strong enough to hold up the weight of the structure by themselves. This photo was taken before installation.

Deck Lifted

Underneath each steel post is a bed of limestone that the SmartJack is installed upon. We then backfilled the limestone with the dirt. This will help prevent soil settlement. Even if the soil continues to settle, the SmartJacks can be easily adjusted in the future to counteract it.
