Basement Waterproofing and Egress Window Services in Cincinnati, Ohio
Challenge
The home owner's of this basement wanted it waterproofed with an egress window installed as well. They wanted these two services so they could eventually finish their basement to have a new bedroom for the house. It turns out, their old waterproofing system was compromised by drain cloggage and a poor performing sump pump. They wanted it done right this time, The Basement Doctor way.
Solution
We started by installing the egress window, replacing a smaller basement window in the process. We started with the egress window, so we could hook it up to the interior perimeter waterproofing drains by use of a WellDuct, in case the window were to ever receive large amounts of water. After the egress window, we started demoing the perimeter of the basement to make room for our WaterGuard drains, which sit beneath the concrete floor, out of sight. We also demoed door ways for where trench drains were installed, and we dug up the hole where the TripleSafe sump pump was installed. After we demoed, we carefully placed the WaterGuard drains down in the trenches we demoed, making sure the WaterGuards are at a slight angle down towards the sump pump. We also connected the trench drains to the WaterGuard, so that the door ways were safe as well. After the drains were placed, we placed a thin but sturdy layer of concrete back over the drains, so they are out of sight. We then installed the TripleSafe sump pump and hooked it up with a UltraSump 4 battery back up. The TripleSafe was then hooked up with discharge lines that go far away at a grade away from the home. We then placed Foamax insulation panels on the basement walls which will provide great insulation properties to the basement, as well as provide a water barrier off of the walls which are fitted to connect to the drainage systems. Lastly, we hooked up a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier to the drainage system because the dehumidifier can remove up to 90 pints of water out the air in a day. The result is a dry basement with beautiful walls and a brand new egress window. The homeowner's are free from the shackles of a wet basement, and can finally finish their basement, fitted with a new bedroom.
