Waterproofing Measures Taken in Covington Basement
Challenge
This basement in Covington, Kentucky was having issues with water infiltration. The owners noticed that water was pooling in the corners of their basement and was specifically entering under their doorway during heavy rains. They were also noticing moisture and humidity creating unhealthy odors and air quality in their basement. Luckily, we were able to install waterproofing and dehumidifying measures in this basement.
Solution
To waterproof this basement's doorway, we used a TrenchDrain. This will catch water seeping under the door before it can enter the basement. We also installed a WaterGuard around the perimeter of the basement, which is an underground drainage system that will collect any captured water from the basement and carry it to the Sump.
The Sumping system that we installed was a SuperSump with an UltraSump battery back-up pump. The SuperSump is the finest sump pump available on the market and includes an airtight lid, SuperLiner, and WaterWatch Alarm system (which will alert you to pooling water). The UltraSump battery back-up provides an extra level of protection during power outages. A fully charges UltraSump battery can pump 12,000 gallons of water with its charge. This creates a very reliable sump system.
We also installed a SaniDry Dehumidifier. This model is the most powerful dehumidifier for its size and is both energy-efficient and high-performance. This should help with some of the odors and humidity emanating from this basement.
Lastly, we installed a discharge line in the back yard to carry the water outside. We also installed an IceGuard, which will provide an alternative route for water to exit through should the discharge line freeze or clog.
