A homeowner in Cincinnati, Ohio, reached out to The Basement Doctor of Cincinnati for a crawl space encapsulation. He met with Austin, a Certified Inspector, who recommended installing our CleanSpace vapor barrier, drainage matting, vent covers, a SmartSump sump pump, SilverGlo insulation panels, foam rim joist insulation, and a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier. The CleanSpace encapsulation system is a durable moisture barrier, (similar to a pool liner) secured with specialized fasteners. Beneath it, drainage matting is installed to create a pathway for groundwater to the sump pump. Designed specifically for crawl spaces, the SmartSump features a WaterWatch alarm. If a plumbing leak occurs, a built-in pocket on the lid fills first, triggering the alarm and alerting the homeowner before significant water damage occurs. To improve insulation we sprayed foam insulation on the rim joists and installed SilverGlo insulation panels along the wall. The rim joist, located above the foundation at the home's perimeter, is a common entry point for unconditioned air, leading to condensation and humidity issues. SilverGlo, a graphite-infused polystyrene insulation, helps resist heat flow, improving energy efficiency. Finally, a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier was added to regulate humidity levels. This high-performance dehumidifier and filtration system helps prevent mold, mildew, and musty odors—creating a healthier environment in the crawl space and, ultimately, a healthier home.
