There is something special about the holidays that makes our hearts grow three sizes. That’s why November through December is considered The Season of Giving. It is so important to us as a culture that nearly 31% of all annual donations happen in December, says Neonone.com. The Basement Doctor of Cincinnati is no exception to the giving culture. When the opportunity presents itself, and we’re able, we love to give back to the community too.

The Opportunity

Not so long ago a member of our Sales Team was approached by a previous customer. They were impressed with our work and wanted to know if we could help a neighbor in need. These neighbors, she explained, are kind, generous, and selfless. They are true pillars of the community.

Life has thrown some challenges their way. They are a multigenerational family of five living in a small home. So space is of the essence. That’s why their basement was part of the problem. When it rained, hydrostatic pressure and a crack in the wall would cause the basement to flood. Water intrusion made the space in their basement unsanitary and therefore unusable as a living space.

To help her neighbors, our point of contact raised some money to get the basement waterproofed. She knew that the amount of money raised wasn’t quite enough to get the job done. That’s when she asked our Salesman Roger. He donated some of his own money, and our owner Bobby Miles covered the remainder of the cost.

How We Solved The Problem

To waterproof this basement, first, we installed a sump pump. Next, the perimeter was surrounded by our WaterGuard system. To prevent water damage from a large crack in the foundation wall, our foreman and technician installed Brightwall paneling to channel any potential leaks into the WaterGuard.

Working together to level WaterGuard.
The WaterGuard system keeps water from entering the home by guiding water towards the sump pump.

Waterproofing the basement was life-changing for this family. We are proud to have been part of this project. Knowing that we helped this family’s quality of life makes our hearts swell. Thank you, Cincinnati, for letting us be a part of your community and the opportunity to give back.
