A homeowner had recently invested in a new egress window for their basement, installed by another contractor. Unfortunately, the window was placed at the bottom of a hill with no drainage system in place—a critical oversight. Within weeks, the window well filled with water during heavy rain, leading to significant basement leaks and water intrusion.
Solution
When our team arrived, the problem was immediately clear: the installer failed to account for the surrounding landscape. Any experienced waterproofer who installs egress windows would recognize that placing a well at the base of a hill requires a dedicated drainage solution to prevent flooding.
To permanently resolve the issue, we installed a WellDuct® system to channel water away from the well, WaterGuard® subfloor drains to manage leaks at the footing, and our TripleSafe® sump pump system to ensure reliable water removal even during extreme weather conditions. The result: a dry, protected basement and a properly functioning egress window that finally lived up to its purpose.
This is the image Steve, one of our Certified Inspectors, saw when he entered the basement. This dirty water was slowly leaking into the basement, and it was surprising the glass didn't shatter from the weight of the water. We had to act quickly to save this basement and window.
This problematic hillside was causing water to runoff straight into the window well, just beyond the side yard gate in this photo. Any experienced egress installer should have noticed this problem right away.
We installed our WellDuct drain at the base of the window, which connects to the subfloor drainage system. Our WellDuct drain can be installed for any size window.
Our TripleSafe sump pump will make sure this basement and well stay dry. It comes with a battery backed power system, seen to the right of the sump lid. This battery will provide power to one of the three pumps in the liner if the system were to lose power, or if the other two pumps needed some help for whatever other reason. The TripleSafe is our most secure sump pump system.
