Sagging Kitchen Floor Stabilized in Cincinnati, Ohio
Challenge
A homeowner in Cincinnati called The Basement Doctor to find a solution to a problem they were having with sagging floors in the kitchen of their home. They reported that the home was built in the 1800s and they were worried about the floor potentially collapsing one day if someone walked through the kitchen door. We sent a Certified Inspector out free of charge to give a trusty estimate to make sure their home is safe. Our inspector recommended two SmartJack posts and a steel replacement beam to hold the wooden floor up.
Solution
The SmartJack floor support system is used to jack up and support a floor that is sagging or creaking. The Smart Jack base was designed to dissipate the load it holds into the floor of the basement, using a physics principle known as the "bulb of influence." The posts themselves are cut to size, and are made of zinc coated steel. They were designed to support heavy loads, unlike other jacking systems often seen in homes, and they prevent rusting. At the top of the SmartJack, there is an adjustable screw that is used to jack up the floor, and they can be adjusted at any time. Now that the SmartJacks have been installed the floors are stabilized and lifted.
